Sylvia Mayer helps people resolve their conflicts through mediation and arbitration and represents parties in civil litigation and business bankruptcy. In 2014, Sylvia established S. Mayer Law to focus her practice primarily on mediation and arbitration. She mediates and arbitrates disputes of all kinds, including, business, bankruptcy, civil, commercial, consumer, elder and adult care, labor and employment, financial services, insurance, personal injury, and workouts.
With over 20 years of legal experience in civil litigation, commercial bankruptcy, out of court workouts, and financial institution advisory services, Sylvia has represented plaintiffs, defendants, debtors, committees, trustees, financial institutions, and other parties in state, federal and bankruptcy courts around the country. She has also counseled parties on issues related to business transactions and represented companies and their stakeholders in out of court workouts. Known for tenacity, creative problem solving, and crisis leadership, she has experience in a wide variety of industries.
Over the last two decades, Ms. Mayer has routinely served as the peacemaker guiding parties to settle contested matters, claims, lawsuits and issues of value distribution. Her experience extends beyond the courtroom and the settlement table to the boardroom and internal client investigations. Sylvia is a National Association of Corporate Directors Governance Fellow having demonstrated her commitment to boardroom excellence by completing the NACD’s comprehensive program for corporate directors.

Sylvia has over 100 hours of ADR training. Sylvia graduated from Washington University in 1987, cum laude, with a B.A. in Theater. After working for three years in the arts community in Houston, Sylvia went to law school and, in 1993, she graduated from the University of Houston Law Center, summa cum laude.
